A BIT ABOUT
JEMMA TAYLOR

I have always had a passion for the arts, not just in painting.

I loved the 11 years I worked at Jaykays Dance Company, teaching a wide range of people how to dance. I always enjoyed the happiness dance brought to my students, especially the 3-year-olds. Film and TV is another thing that I love. Movie marathons and binge-watching TV series are my idea of a good time!

Where it began

My art story began with a foundation degree from Warwickshire College where I learnt the fundamentals and fell in love with painting. Since then, I have enjoyed learning new techniques and building my skills. From a love for what you do comes a lifetime of self learning; I’ve recently added oil painting, screen printing, and even face painting to my portfolio.

My business, JT Illustration, was started part-time in 2012, but I’m delighted that it is now my full-time occupation. In 2022 I made the decision to launch my new brand Jemma Taylor. The growth of the business has partly been the result of working with organisations such as the Belgrade Theatre Production Services, and a local charity called No More Floor. My work has also been exhibited in restaurants and galleries across the Warwickshire area. My first pieces were done for family, like the fairy-tale themed wall murals for my niece. I then went on to paint nursery murals, and large full wall landscapes.

WHAT I LOVE
TO CREATE

Since I started my business I have not only grown as an artist, but grown to appreciate what art can do for others.

When I first started painting my inspiration came from books and film. I love the escapism you can feel and I wanted to recreate that in my work to share with everyone else. As my work developed I started to realise that it was the people around me that influenced my work. Lately we have all learned to appreciate what we have and I love that I can celebrate my loved ones in my paintings in one way or another. They are the reason I do what I do and they help bring a warm nostalgic element to my work.

For people who commission an artwork from me, it’s often because they are looking to capture a fond memory and this comes with a huge responsibility. It isn’t about making the best art piece, but about truly capturing the meaning and emotion of its subject. I love working in bold colours. Bright and colourful pieces fit with my personal ethos, of spreading happiness and joy. I am happiest when I am painting, and that comes across in every piece I create.
